Chapter 18

Kyra became nervous as she was driven with her luggage to join the tour buses and her five Backstreet Boys to embark on their tour. The boys had had a short break, and she had had enough time to pack. She wrung her hands temporarily before checking her lip gloss in a mirror-she knew she couldnt look her best non-stop for an entire month, but first impressions were important; she wanted them to like her, and not just simply see her as a fan they had to accommodate and entertain constantly. She was a woman, wanting to get to know these men better.

Nick was already in his tour bus making it once again a homely place for him. He put clothes away in a small closet in the furthest part of the bus, where the double bed was. The bus had gone through a small renovation in preparation for Kyras arrival- the sofa had been replaced with a single bed for Kyra, which would double-up as a sofa, with another small closet next to it for her things. Nick had not been cursed with another anxiety attack yet, but meeting Kyra was his toughest, but most appealing challenge to date. What if he didnt live up to her expectations? What if she hated him after meeting him? What if they didnt get along?

Nick had helped announce the winner on TRL and Kyra was called for an interview, having already been told she had won but he couldnt stay which he was furious about. Brian comforted him and assured him that hed meet her eventually. Nick pondered over how Brian knew the effect the story had on him. Kyras recollection of her TRL appearance flooded her mind as the driver told her they were only five minutes away. Butterflies tapped at her stomach with their antennae, and flapped their wings gracefully, tickling her tummy in an array of sensations. She was nervous, but she was excited. This was a one in a million opportunity and she quietly prayed thanking the Lord that she was worthy of it.

Dude, why are you so nervous? AJ asked as they waited outside Nicks bus for Kyra to arrive- five figures lined elegantly like cowboys against the black tour bus, the sun shining upon them.
Cause I dont want her to be disappointed in us. Nick blamed half his anxieties which became a convincing argument.
If shes a fan at all, shell appreciate us letting her into our lives and showing her the people we truly are Kevin philosophised, not worried in the least over Kyras presence during the next month. She was to see the ups and downs and inside outs of touring, but she had opted to see them, and they had nothing to hide.
Like I said man, if shes cute, Im spending as much time on your bus as possible! AJ joked throwing a playful arm around Nick.
No you are not man! Nick argued raising one eyebrow suggestively. Were gonna wanna be alone Nick protested provocatively. His mind momentarily conjured up romantic images of him and Kyra together, but it wasnt all sexual. It was as if they were two halves, coming together to make a complete being, fitting together as they were made, and relishing every minute of it. A pleasurable shiver gripped his spine and quietened him as a car pulled up to the buses and Nick realised this was it.

Kyra noticed the boys before they spotted her, knowing who was who and where they were standing. AJ was laughing and she smiled as she noticed Nick, looking fresh and clean and happy. She was overwhelmed by a sense of purpose catching Nicks glance. Although, any fan sat in her position would most likely say the same thing but, she believed she was meant to be there-that she had some job or responsibility to complete, but she couldnt quite put her finger on what it was.

Is that her? Nick asked quickly which made AJ laugh more. He took a deep breath and told himself to prepare himself for whatever she was going to bring into his life.

She took a deep breath and opened the door to the car and stepped out into the sunshine. The driver told her to head over to the boys and that he would take her luggage to the bus. She turned confidently realising they were all watching her and walked over to the five men embracing her entrance into their lives, their private space.

Dude, I am sooo on your bus! Shes beautiful AJ bantered but Nick failed to hear him.
Yeah, shes beautiful Nick said with a smile. Shes beautiful was all that had registered. She was a breath of fresh airshe was the fertility in the earth on which we walkshe was the heart that controlled the weather.Nick contemplated each analogy in turn, believing he was truly witnessing someone born of a higher power and grace. The wind blew her hair gently and she smiled when AJ reached her first and hugged her in greeting.
Hi, Nick. She said beaming with beauty and serenity. This hadnt proved to be as scary as she had anticipated. The tempest in Nicks life was calmed and soothed by her immediately. He was no longer nervous. He was no longer worried. Nick felt in his heart that he knew her.
Hey Kyra. He said a familiarity ringing in his voice as cuddled her. Mysteriously Nick felt as if he had been caught up in her embrace before. She felt like a friend he had known his entire life except for the fact that he had just met her. His soul breathed in happiness and relief. She was here. He watched as she was greeted and welcomed onto the tour by the others. She posed for a few pictures and talked briefly into a camera Amy had for the official website and for MTV. Silently watching her frame, and the way she spoke elegantly and glowed like the California sun she had left behind to join them, Nick concluded that she was all he prayed she would be. He could see their field in her eyes and the sky above them in which they watched. Nick couldnt help but hear Something in the way she moves By James Taylor play peacefully in his heart as he contemplated her beauty and effect on him:

Something in the way she moves, or looks my way, or calls my name
that seems to leave this troubled world behind.
And if I'm feeling down and blue or troubled by some foolish game,
she always seems to make me change my mind..

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now; she's around me now almost all the time.
And if I'm well you can tell that she's been with me now.
She's been with me now quite a long, long time and I feel fine.

Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning
and I find myself careening in places where I should not let me go.
She has the power to go where no one else can find me yes and silently remind me
of the happiness and the good times that I know, and then I just got to go then.

It isn't what she's got to say but how she thinks and where she's been.
To me, the words are nice, the way they sound.
I like to hear them best that way, it doesn't much matter what they mean.
She says them mostly just to calm me down

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, she's around me now almost about all the time.
And if I'm well you can tell she's been with me now.
She's been with me now quite a long, long time and I feel fine.
