Chapter 29

“But Mommy!” Baylee fussed as Leighanne and Brian prepared to leave to do some grocery shopping. “Swimming!” He yelled. “Swimming Pool!”
”But honey, you’ve been in the pool today already. One time is enough.” Leighanne said smiling slightly- Baylee fussed just like his Dad-some of the time it was like having two children, and now Nick as an additional third.
But she of course didn’t mind-the boys were not the most easy to deal with most of the time, but they were still her boys. Baylee folded his arms and sulked. Nick picked him up in my arms, a reluctant Baylee not having much choice in the matter.
“Hey, don’t worry little man, we’ll have fun instead, just you and me.” Nick encouraged, and Baylee smiled a little.
“And Heather.” Brian added smiling.
“Oh, she can stay over if she wants to tonight.” Leighanne said joining her husband in smiling at Nick. Their grins were like those on cheesy TV adverts and Nick laughed at them. But they were eagerly anticipating Nick having a new, decent girlfriend to help him in this crucial time. Even if it ended up being just some fun for Nick, it was well overdue.
“Are you sure you’ll be ok? We’ll take him if you want, so you guys can be alone.” Leighanne asked, although Baylee hated shopping with a vengeance.
“No, we’ll be fine. Won’t we Baylee?” Nick said, and Baylee cheered up.
“Animal Cookies!” Baylee yelled with a large smile on his tiny face, suggesting that they are what he wanted.
Leighanne rolled her eyes, and kissed the cheek of her son.
“If you’re good for Uncle Nick.’ She said firmly. “Say goodbye to Daddy.” Brian tickled Baylee, inducing fits of giggles before kissing his forehead.
“Bye Baylee.” Brian said, as Baylee waved them off and out of the door.
“Nick!!” Baylee yelled to which Nick playfully mimicked.
“Yes!”
“Swimming!” Nick pulled an exaggerated face of astonishment, his mouth hanging wide open.
“Daddy and Mommy said no swimming.” Nick said and Baylee pulled a face.
“Don’t pull faces at me!” Nick exclaimed. Nick pinched Baylee’s nose and Baylee giggled. “I got your nose!” Nick screamed, and Baylee pulled at Nick’s hand, demanding his nose back, when there was a knock at the door.
Nick turned his head to the nearby door, and immediately told himself to relax. He took a few deep breaths and looked in the mirror. He looked good, he looked relaxed. Nick looked and Baylee in his arms as the doorbell rang again, and he smirked cheekily to himself.
”Baylee, you gotta do something for me ok?” Nick asked, and Baylee nodded. “My friend is here, so you be really nice to her and be really cute.” He opened the door swiftly, so he didn’t have to think too much about the beautiful girl on the other side.
His excited faced drooped however.
“Package for Mr. Littrell.” The FedEx man handed Nick a piece of paper to sign, to which he did, and left the parcel by the inside of the door. He sighed.
“Ok, Baylee that was just a test run.” He joked, disappointed though that it was not Heather. This gap in time had now given him time to be nervous, which he didn’t want to be. He hadn’t decided whether to disclose his feelings or not to her yet, so this indecisive state of mind made him feel tense and the nervousness didn’t help him. As he could not wring his hands, he fidgeted on his feet trying to relax. Baylee was calm and being a good sport while they waited so he gave him a quick peck on the cheek. The doorbell then subsequently rang again.
“Ok, Baylee. Take Two. Don’t be nervous, she’ll like you.” Nick told Baylee but he pondered over whether he was really addressing his own anxieties by talking to him. “Remember, cute and nice.” He reminded Baylee as he opened the door swiftly again. The sunshine crept in along with the faint smell of a sweet perfume. Nick smiled sweetly and greeted her as she walked through the door, in a flowing, summer dress that fell to just above her knee. Her hair was tied back messily, but somehow she made it look elegant and pretty.
Her presence was a gust of wind from the Gulf Coast and Nick breathed in the true essence of her, remembering Tampa Bay and nights under the stars on his boat.
“Who’s this little guy?!” She exclaimed excitedly. “He’s a sweetheart! He’s so cute!” She said brushing a finger over his cheek and Baylee giggled on cue which made Heather smile widely. Nick knew the little guy was a great way to make the girls smile.
“This is Brian’s son. His name is Baylee. Say Hi Heather.” Nick said looking over at Baylee.
“Hi Heather.” Baylee said, however “Heather” came out more like “Hather” but she loved it all the same, planting a kiss on Baylee’s cheek and then a linger kiss on Nick’s cheek too. “Is he staying with us?” Heather asked enquiringly, she seemed antagonistic to the fact that Baylee may intrude on their time together. “Well I’m babysitting” Nick said nervously, trying to judge her attitude in her eyes. “But, he’s going to go next door and play, so we can relax for a bit.” Heather smiled devilishly at this, and Nick licked his lips briefly.
He led Heather into the living room, where he had sat on the floor on the phone not too long ago and told her to make herself at home. She sat down on the sofa and crossed her legs, revealing the skin on her thighs a little. Nick felt desire begin to bleed into his veins. It made his body melt and he tried to compromise with himself about sex in Brian’s house. Brian had said not in the bed sheets, but he hadn’t ruled out the sofa-Nick pushed these thoughts from his mind trying to keep his cool and morals.
“Let me just take this one into the other room.” Nick said and walked to a door across the room and opened it up, kneeling down and placing Baylee on the floor in front of him. “Way-to-go Baylee! I owe you my Animal Cookies for this.” He whispered to him and kissed his cheek again. Baylee went inside the room, and Nick left the door ajar so he could hear if there were any problems. Baylee busied himself with a toy. Nick wandered back over to the sofa. He smiled at Heather and slumped down next to her, totally relaxed now. She moved closer to him and Nick prayed his defences would hold out.
“I haven’t seen you in a while.” She moaned playfully, pulling at the collar of his shirt, before slipping her hand inside his shirt and rubbing his neck slightly. Nick liked this, and her hands were so soft.
“I know” He said regretfully. “I’ve just been busy trying to get my life on track” He added looking into her eyes. He needed to kiss the lips that were teasing him and tempting them, with their red gloss and pouting ever so slightly.
”But absence makes the heart grow fonder.” He teased grinning playfully at her. He felt the electricity race between them as he wrapped his arms around her slender back. His hands brushed over her thin dress and his imagination drove him wild about what was under it. She didn’t hesitate and leant forward to kiss him, pushing against his lips with hers in a powerful kiss. Their kisses were slow at first; she wanted to ensure Nick was going to surrender as she seduced him. Nick’s eyes wouldn’t open even if he needed them to. He didn’t need to see her, he could taste her every fibre through her lips which he craved insatiably. He slipped his tongue into her mouth and her tongue greeted his warmly and passionately which made him groan slightly in pleasure. He soon found himself on his back on the sofa, she straddled his hips and was lying on his chest sucking on the skin just under his jaw-kissing and caressing his tingling flesh. Nick groaned again as she continued, becoming more and more intense with his neck. He then swelled with deep desire and ecstasy when he felt one of her hands trail his chest, and slip inside his trousers.
He wanted this so badly, but his conscience interrupted the fun he was having. Baylee is only in the other room though, he thought. How awful would it be if he were to scurry out and see him having sex? Nick bit his bottom lip before telling her to stop. She was very shocked and removed her hand but looked down at him in dissatisfaction.
“Look” Nick said, sitting them up on the sofa once more. “Baylee is only in there, and I can’t imagine what it would be like if he came in and saw us” He trailed off, and she moved away from him and sat frustrated next to him.”I’m sorry” Nick exclaimed, and she rolled her eyes. “I mean this isn’t my house, and I just don't feel comfortable. I do want this though.” Nick tried to persuade her but she said nothing. She merely sat with both her arms and legs crossed. They sat in silence briefly, before she looked at her watch, before jumping up.
“Let’s watch some TV.” She screeched excitedly, before kissing Nick one, last time. He smiled; glad she had retained her good mood brought about by Baylee. She switched the TV on and sat back down next to Nick with the remote. He clicked the channel to E! Entertainment. Nick was slightly confused as to why she watched that rubbish, but he didn’t complain, after all, the idea of today was just for them to spend some time together. She rested one of her arms on his leg as she relaxed. She smiled at him; he smiled back before quickly pecking her cheek. He was happy now. The sun was at his mercy, and he had a beautiful girl by his side. This is all he could ever want-the silence in the head, a stable health, and a wonderful girl.
She averted her eyes back to the screen, as did he subsequently. The programme she wanted to watch was a News Bulletin. He was again confused as to why.
“Our main E! News Story tonight originates from the National Enquirer where Heather Mathews, new, casual girlfriend of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, sold her story.” Another news reader continued and Nick’s eyes widened in shock.
Heather smiled slyly.
“The singer of the Backstreet Boys has been described as ”unstable” and Heather confirmed rumours that Nick had in fact been seeing a shrink over anxiety attacks and stress.” The news then cut to Heather and an interviewer. “She is doing a fucking interview” thought Nick in his head. He was still in far too much shock to speak.
“So how is Nick doing now? Can you confirm that he’s seeing a shrink?” The interviewer asked, and the shot cut to Heather.
“Yes he has been. He has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety. He doesn’t think he’s a good boyfriend, and he doesn’t think the new album he and the boys are recording is any good. He says it’s their poorest music yet. He has also even been having problems with our sex life.” Nick’s jaw dropped open dramatically, and he turned to look at her in rage as he listened to the rest of the interview and not watch.
“What kind of problems?” The interviewer pried further.
“He’s at the moment impotent but his psychiatrist is working on that for me.” The two newsreaders that began the story resumed their half of the show.
“Heather, a modest waitress and half-sister to Nick’s ex Paris Hilton, met Carter when he collapsed in her restaurant and nearly died. She claims the whole relationship has been a scam and a disappointment, and wants no more to do with Nick.
“He’s an asshole.” Heather said on TV. “And I want nothing more to do with him. Paris was right. He’s selfish and obsessive and jealous.” “In other news”. The reader began before Heather clicked off the TV with the remote. She stood up and grabbed her bag as Nick sat dumfounded on the sofa, staring at her numbly and blankly. He couldn’t believe it. He just couldn’t believe it. He felt his breathing increase and his face turned red with embarrassment and rage. She had used him for her fifteen minutes of fame. He was disgusted and outraged. He stood up.
“What the fuck was that Heather?!” Nick screamed at her. She didn’t respond but merely checked her manicure smiling. “Answer me God damn it!” Nick shouted.
“Paris just wanted a little revenge.” Heather stated sweetly and smiled to him as if she had done nothing wrong. Nick took a violent step to towards her. She stood back, unafraid of him.
“Nah, ah.” She said teasingly. “I wouldn’t get violent with me by the way, because I could just dial one little number, and confirm that you beat me, like you beat Paris.” Nick stayed silent for a few minutes, trying to keep his self-control. How could she do this? Why did women just like to pick him up and play with him until they got bored, and then discard him again? He was upset. His duck-taped heart was palpitating and tearing inside him. He tasted betrayal in his mouth, which he knew the taste of all too well. She folded her arms and waited with a response. “Get out.” Nick said as calm as he could. “Get the fuck out of this house, right this fucking second.” He said feeling his aggression increasing. She walked slowly towards the door, before turning back to him.
“You’re a lousy excuse for a man you know that?” Heather said spitefully, tipping salt into the wound.
“Fuck you, you whore!” Nick screamed at her. She was unimpressed.
“Yes I’m a whore.” She said. “But you’ll only ever score with whores because you’re such a disgusting pig.” Paris saying the exact same words rang in his mind and haunted him as if she were laughing at his foolish judgement. Nick picked up a vase of flowers and hurled it at the door, missing Heather by a mere foot. The china scattered on the floor along with the water inside it, the flowers fell and landed together in a pile. Her face turned cold and serious. “Screw you Carter.” She exclaimed before another cheeky grin came across her face. “Oh no wait” She said putting her finger to her lips briefly. “I already did that.” She said, walking out and slamming the door shut behind her, leaving Nick alone and vulnerable and abandoned.
